Updates for SRW@3 and SRW Official Site

18 days countdown to the release of SRW Alpha 3, and more updates are up! This time, it's on new features of the game system.

Support

- "Guidance Scenario" – A SRW tutorial meant for beginners, where all the basics and commands of SRW will be taught. Arad and Viletta will be the unlikely comedic pair to be the tutors.

Personal thoughts: Since this game is in the Top 3 most anticipated games in Japan, it's expected that many newbies will try out this game. As for old timers like me, maybe i will give it a go just to see HOW Arad and Viletta will interact with each other.

- "Option mode". There will be two new options under the option mode. One is the "Scenario Chart", where you will get to see the different paths you can take in the game. The other is the "Walkthrough Q&A", which will contains stuff such as FAQ hints, techniques and information. It's more like a advanced tutorial.

Personal thoughts: Finally, without referring to a FAQ, we can get hold of the different branches in the game. The walkthrough will be useful for newbies in further explaining the game.

- "Term Definitions". This is the third new option in the option mode. Similar to the Character Database and Mecha Database, this will serve to explain the different technical terms (places, names, parts, etc.) used in SRW. These words will also be highlighted during the dialogues and the definitions can be accessed by pressing the Square button.

Personal thoughts: Definitely this is the most useful option. Now we will get to understand those difficult terms. This will also help those who have never played SRW before.

MAP Direction

- Placing units at your own discretion. Well, this is the same as before, which is to arrange your unit's positions after you have chosen them.

- "Cut-in Anime System". There will anime cut-in sequences when certain abilities are activated. The examples shown are Dancougar's Aggressive Beast (Yaseika) and Mazinger's and Great Mazinger's Mazin-power. This is a old system used way back in SRW 4S. It's just that now it is applied to more stuff.

- A new radar showing the 6 basic stats (Close Combat, Hit rate, Ranged Combat, Dodge rate, Skill and Defense) will appear on the pilot screen. This is useful when you are comparing differrent pilots based on their strengths and weaknesses.

- "Battle Report". This new option is under the MAP command menu. It allows you to see the number of allied and enemy units, number of units destroyed, option parts obtained, etc. To me, it's not a useful option though.

- Seishin commands. Now you can use the Square buttons to mark out seishin commands as desired. The seishin list is also out. This time, there are 4 new ones while 1 has changed its name.

Seishin List

Nekketsu 熱血 (Hot Blood) – Use on own unit. For only one time, doubles (2x) damage dealt to enemy. Also applies to songs.

Tamashii 魂 (Soul) – Use on own unit. For only one time, increase damage dealt to enemy by 2.5 times. Also applies to songs.

NEW! Shiki 士気 (Morale) – Use on whole team. For the next attack, all attacks by all members will have 100% critical rates. Doesn't stack together with Nekketsu or Tamashii.

Hiramaki ひらめき (Flash) – Use on own unit. For one time, dodge enemy's attack completely.

NEW! Chokkan 直感 (Intuition) – Originally known as Mikiri (Self-forsake). A combination of Hicchuu and Hirameki. (Frankly speaking, the change in name is welcomed)

Fukutsu 不屈 (Persistence) – Use on own unit. For one time, damage received is reduced to 10.

Teppeki 鉄壁 (Iron Wall) – Use on own self. In one turn, reduce damage received to 1/4 of the original damage.

Shuuchuu 集中 (Concentration) – Use on own self. In one turn, increse dodge and hit rates by 30%.

Hicchuu 必中 (Sure Hit) – Use on own self. In one turn, own hit rate is always 100%. Hirameki takes precedence over Hicchuu.

Kannou 感応 (Psychic telepathy?) – Use on an ally unit. That unit gains the effect of Hicchuu.

Kasoku 加速 (Accelerate) – Use on own team. Team's movement is increased by 3 squares. As long as the team do not move, the effect is still there.

Kakusei 覚醒 (Awaken) – Use on own team. Able to make another move this turn. This effect cannot stack on each other.

Konjou 根性 (Guts) – Use on ownself. Recover 30% of own HP points.

Dokonjou ど根性 (Great Guts) – Use on ownself. Recover HP points fully.

Shinrai 信頼 (Trust) – Use on an ally unit. That unit recovers 2000 HP points.

Yuujou 友情 (Friendship) – Use on an ally team. Recover the HP points of that team's members fully.

NEW! Kizuna 絆 (Bonding) – Affects all allies on the map. Recover 50% of all ally units' HP points. (Long ago, this seishin is known as Yuujou)

Hokyuu 補給 (Resupply) – Use on an ally unit. That unit recovers all of its EN points and ammunition.

Kitai 期待 (Expectation) – Use on an ally unit. That unit recovers 50 SP points.

Kiai 気合 (Fighting Spirit) – Use on ownself. Increase Kiryoku (Willpower/Morale) by 10.

Kihaku 気迫 (Vigor) – Use on ownself. Increase Kiryoku (Willpower/Morale) by 30.

Gekirei 激励 (Encouragement) – Use on own team. All members' Kiryoku (Willpower/Morale) by 5.

NEW! Jounetsu 情熱 (Passion) – Use on ownself. Increase song energy by 10.
(gotta a feeling that only Basara will have this seishin…)

Tekagen てかげん 手加減 (Mercy) – Use on ownself. A killing attack on an enemy instead reduce its HP to 10. Only works if your pilot's Skill is higher than your enemy's.

Sogeki 狙撃 (Snipe) – Use on ownself. The range of own unit's long range weapons (except MAP weapons) is increased by 2.

Teisatsu 偵察 (Reconnaisance) – Use on an enemy unit. Its ability and stat screens are available to see.

Datsuryoku 脱力 (Exhaust) – Use on an enemy team. The Kiryoku (Willpower/Morale) of that team's members are reduced by 10.

Kakuran かく乱 (Confusion) – Affects all enemy units. For 1 turn, their hit rates are reduced by 50%.

Ai 愛 (Love) – Use on ownself. Combination of Kasoku, Hicchuu, Hirameki, Nekketsu, Kiai, Doryoku and Kouun. The ultimate seishin.

NEW! Yuuki 勇気 (Courage) – Use on ownself. Combination of Kasoku, Hicchuu, Fukutsu, Nekketsu, Kiai and Chokugeki.

(P.S. Chokugeki is not listed in this list. It may be a mistake, but here goes the explanation for Chokugeki.
Chokugeki 直撃 (Direct Hit) – Use on ownself. For the next attack, ignore all special abilities of the enemy unit you are targeting which can interfere with your attack.)

Kouun 幸運 (Fortune) – Use on ownself. During the next combat, if the unit defeats the enemy, it gains double the money earned.

Shukufuku 祝福 (Bless) – Use on an ally team. Same effect as Kouun, except that it works on the whole team.

Doryoku 努力 (Effort) – Use on ownself. During the next battle, if the unit defeats the enemy, it gains double the experience points.

Ouen 応援 (Cheer) – Use on an ally team. Same effect as Doryoku, except that it works on the whole team.

As for the website,

- An introduction page is done for SRW. Expected to be updated in the future.

- summaries of the 4 SRWs in the Alpha arc are available for those who want to get a glimpse at the overall Alpha story.

- The 2nd "GONG" commercial is up and this time it's the Hiyama version. (seiyuu for Gai)

- The 3rd interview with the "GONG" commercial members is up. This time, Hoshi Souichiro is interviewed (seiyuu for Kira).

- A detailed special review is written by Hikawa Ryuusuke on the SRW Alpha 3 pre-ordered memorial disc "Forever @". Hikawa is a veteran commentator on mecha anime and tokusha.

I would love to translate the whole Alpha story and the special review by Hikawa. But that will have to wait til another time.
