First wave of games planned for Nintendo Wii

To all those sceptics out there who think that Wii will fail big time, think again. The games that are announced these 2 days have greatly interest me to the extent of the possibility of buying it on its launch date. Never before have I really feel excited about a console so much. (NDS was second in line with its touch screen & dual screens)

Now onto the list (everything hereafter are taken from The Magic Box):

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz

Mario Galaxy Edit: This game will not be in the first wave. It will most likely be out 6 months after Wii's release.

The Legend of Zelda: Twillight Princess

Wii Sports

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Sonic Wild Fire

Fire Emblem

Warioware: Smooth Moves

Disaster: Day of Crisis

Excite Truck

Project H.A.M.M.E.R

Bomberman Land

Sengoku Musou (temporary name)

Final Furlong

Mobile Suit Gundam

SD Gundam G Breaker

Digimon

One Piece Unlimited Adventure

——————————————————————————————–

Some games (that i'm interested in) that are mentioned in Gamespot, but not in Magic Box:

Dragon Ball Z Budokai: Tenkaichi 2

Trauma Center: Second Opinion

Resident Evil (temporary name)

Harvest Moon (temporary name)

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers (codename)

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors

———————————————————————————————–

My views: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will definitely be in the spotlight, while old-time titles like Super Smash Bros, Metroid Prime and Sonic will win their supporters with the new interface. Warioware looks fun, given the review in Times magazine, while Fire Emblem looks promising. There are two games from Bandai that caught my eye, namely SD Gundam and One Piece. This is really going to be fun figuring out the wonders that the "revolutionary" controller can do.

There are actually dozens of games announced, but I only listed those that I might be interested in. Here's the link for the full list of games

  1. You list makes me even more certain that Wii will suck. Half of it comprises of new takes on old series, with only Zelda looking like it could be a winner, while the rest seem underwhelming.

  2. well, the same can be said of other consoles. You do not expect the whole list to be dominated by new games.

    X-box 360:
    * Amped 3 (2K Games)
    * Call of Duty 2 (Activision)
    * Condemned (Sega)
    * Dead Or Alive 4 (Tecmo)
    * Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Bethesda)
    * Final Fantasy XI (Microsoft)
    * Full Auto (Sega)
    * Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (Ubisoft)
    * Gun (Activision)
    * Kameo: Elements of Power (Microsoft)
    * Madden NFL 06 (EA)
    * NBA 2K6 (2K Games)
    * NHL 2K6 (2K Games)
    * The Outfit (THQ)
    * Perfect Dark LE (Microsoft)
    * Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft)
    * Quake 4 (Activision)
    * Ridge Racer 6 (Namco)
    * Saints Row (THQ)
    * Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland (Activision)
    * Top Spin 2 (2K Games)

    And yes, more than half of it are “new takes on old series”, as you have said.

    as for PS3,
    * 6Gun 2 – BattleBorne Entertainment
    * Avalon – Climax Studios
    * Dark Sector – Digital Extreme
    * The Darkness – Starbreeze Studios
    * Devil May Cry 4 – Capcom
    * EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 – EA Chicago
    * Eyedentify – TBA
    * Fifth Phantom Saga – Sonic Team
    * Final Fantasy PS3 – Square Enix
    * Formula One PS3 – SCE Studios Liverpool
    * The Getaway PS3 – SCE Studios Soho
    * Heavenly Sword – Ninja Theory
    * I-8 – Insomniac Games
    * Infraworld – Quantic Dream
    * Killing Day – TBA
    * Killzone PS3 – Guerilla Games
    * Metal Gear Solid 4 – Kojima Productions
    * Mobile Suit Gundam – TBA
    * MotorStorm – Evolution Studios
    * Ni-Oh – KOEI
    * Omikron 2 – Quantic Dream
    * Possession – Blitz Games
    * Project Delta – Playlogic International
    * ShadowClan – Tiger Hill Entertainment
    * Tekken PS3 – Namco
    * Vision GT – Polyphony Digital
    * Warhawk PS3 – Incognito Entertainment

    SERIOUSLY, I REST MY CASE.

  3. Btw, the Sony PS 3 also has gyroscopic motion as Wii (means u can turn the controller to ctrl the game), but w/o a need for an external sensor, unliker for Wii. See http://nytimes.feedroom.com/?fr_story=a3c4bb4cd41641598e1e87afc19d50a96d3342a9.

    Also, based on the coverage of the 3 consoles, Wii seems to be catering to simplistic games, and its specs will be less impressive than Xbox or PS3. All that makes Wii different is its gimmicky controller (which the PS3 also replicates w/o looking as dumb). See http://nytimes.feedroom.com/?fr_story=cae5d95da74e5e4619dec9bda15fc46c17fd9a83

    PS: Look at the demo of pple playing Wii and tell me with a straight face that they do not look dumb.

  4. and with the revolutionary controller, the “new takes on old series” will be MUCH different from before, as they comprises of different gaming style, and not just based on the traditional controller.

    That’s what I call a gaming revolution.

  5. if you think the gyrocopic motion of the PS3 is original and better than Wii, think again,

    Sorry, but even Ubisoft and *GULPS* Microsoft stand out to criticise Sony for it’s uninnovative approach while praising Nintendo for its ingeniusness.

    and you think tilting is innovative? sorry folks but it’s first implemented by Nindendo in the game Warioware Twisted in GBA (or is it Kirby?). And that’s all to the PS3 controller. What can the Wii controller do? it’s a pointer, a motion sensor, a 3D mouse, a remote and a traditional controller (with extra casing) all in one.

    And you say the Wii controller is gimmicky? Well, I’ll say Sony is a freaking thief.

    And if you need some facts about Nintendo, here it is:

    And if you think that game developers are wholly disappointed with the Wii controller, please read this first:

  6. ok, i won’t argue anymore. I will follow Nintendo’s non-provocative stand.

    “Nintendo has stated many times that it does not wish to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft in the next generation war, opting to move into a new direction with Wii that will complement the other systems.”
