SRW OGS Promo Video: Evaluation

A world that stretched infinitely… Over there are the many civilisations, who built up their respective histories.

War and Peace,

Prosperity and Decline,

Destruction and Creation…

This never-ending cycle will not stop…

These are the opening words for the promo video, and next is a short history…

The year is New A.D. 179, as the meteor “Meteo 3″ crashed into the South Pacific Ocean, humans began to know about the existance of extra-terrestrial lifeforms.

Then, it become part of a strategy to involve the whole of Earth into a war of a magnitude never once seen before…

After this, beautiful rendered visual CGs come in to the screen. We see Hagane slowly emerging from the peaceful sea to the sky. The CGs as usual look great, and with the exterior of Hagane being so detailed and the magnificent viewpoint, it is breath-taking just looking at the battleship, which we have in the past saw only sprites of it in the GBA versions of OG and OG2.

Afterwhich, we are directed to a battleground (on land), where we can see Katina’s red Gespenst Mk-II and Kai’s green Gespenst Mk-II M shooting with their M950 Machine Guns against a bunch of flying Lions. Weissritter appears in the air (with R-Wing in the background), dodging some missiles, while R-Wing proceeding to transform to R-1 and shoots off with his G. Revolver (and managed to destroy two Lions). Hagane blast through with a few accurate cannon shots.

Here comes the action-filled part. We saw Cybuster in the air above a base, dodging a few missiles elegantly, and he proceed to slash an enemy by half using his Dis Cutter. Then, Grungast Nishiki on the ground sort of “unshealth” his Keitou Shungokuken (it’s not too clear as it’s somewhat of a sword flash). Next, Huckebein Mk-II fires his G. Impact Cannon. An extreme close-up of Alteisen focusing outwards has him unleashs multiple Square Claymores.

R-1 appears again with his G. Revolver on land near a building, striking a cool shooting pose. R-3 is shown inside a space colony blasting her ESP Cluster Laser while she twirls around. R-2 Powered is shown briefly on the ground firing off his Hi Zol Cannons. Hagane appears at close proximity shooting off various sub-cannons. Huckebein Mk-II is shown near a space colony unleashing his Slash Ripper.

After all that fast paced CGI scenes, things start to have a slow turn here. It’s night time, and 5 robots are shown on the ground with Hagane in the sky. Can’t really make out them, but it seems to be a Grungast Nishiki and 3 Gespensts. I can’t make out the last one, but it seriously look like a Gundam (maybe it’s R-1?). Hagane is above the orange-coloured clouds, and the camera zooms around the battleship as Angelg do, and she flys towards the direction of the sun.

Now, a page of the new history has appeared!

We see R-1, R-2 Powered and R-3 Powered following close in line within space debris.

SRX Team logo appears

It’s the end of the CGI graphics, and it’s time to move onward to the battle scenes. First, we have the leader(?) of SRX team and one of the main male protagonists to appear, Ryuusei Date.

Ryuusei Date, R-1, T-Link Knuckle

A cut-in scene of the R-1 systems and Ryuusei in his cockpit appears, with R-1 in close-up charging up his T-Link Knuckle. He charged forward, punched inot enemy, slides a few metres, and unleashed the FULL power of its knuckle which pass through the enemy, causing flames to appear around the area.

Perhaps the most exaggerated T-Link Knuckle I have ever seen in my whole life, and may jolly well be the most exaggerated move in this promo video. It all comes as being unbelievable, but given that Ryuusei himself is a Super Robot fan (although he pilots a Real Robot), it’s finally justifiable to him. (This really kinda reminds me of Gai’s Aestivalis from Nadesico in SRW Justice. It was also unbelievably exaggerated watching his Gai Super Upper. Believe me, both Ryuusei and Gai have MUCH in common.)

R-1 – *****

Raidiese F Branstein, R-2 Powered, Yuusen-shiki Beam Chakram

R-2 Powered moves while he launches his Beam Chakram into the enemy. When the enemy got stunned for that moment, he moves in and control the weapon like a whip, hitting it a few times. After that he withdraw the beam chakram and shoots it directly into the enemy, pushing it further back.

In the previous versions, R-2 Powered uses his Beam Chakram while staying still, so this is an improvement. If there’s any room for improvement, they should show a close-up of R-2 Powered as well as a cut-in appearance for Rai.

R-2 Powered – ****

Aya Kobayashi, R-3 Powered, Nendou Shuusoku Laser Cannon

A cut-in appearance of Aya appears, while R-3 Powered withdraw her laser cannon from her arsenal. She then accelerates a bit, then turn 45 degrees to the right (a horizontal cut-in of Aya’s face appears), and shoots off. The laser twirls here and there (most likely Aya use her ESP to control the direction of the laser), and it hits right through the enemy, causing a big explosion before the laser get more and more intensified.

Nothing much to say here, other than that the explosions look really nice.

R-3 Powered – ****

Ingram Plissken, Wildschwein, Circle Zanber

A cut-in of Wildschwein charging its Circle Zanber appeared immediately, and we see Wildschwein charged towards the enemy on a plane and slash upwards, after which he turned around and slash again. The enemy got pushed further back and Wildschwein, in close-up view, went in for the final slash.

Damn cool cut-in appearances from different angles.

Wildschwein – *****

To be continued….
