[MAD]スーパーロボット大戦 IMPOSSIBLE [Full Version]
Here’s another interesting video which showcases mecha series that are IMPOSSIBLE to star in SRW, either due to licensing rights (this may be a minor reason since mecha series from other companies have been known to participate in SRW) OR its obscurity (major reason) OR unable to fit into the story because of much less emphasis on mechas. Well, impossible may be too harsh a word, but I do hope that some of them can get in. Many of the titles are indeed obscure, I haven’t even heard of them, but some are fan favourites while some are famous. Here’s the lineup:
Hoshi no Koe/Voices of a Distant Star ほしのこえ- I have not watch it yet. I only know that it’s a very famous one-episode OVA. From the look of things, the main reason why it may not get adapted is that it’s too short, rather than licensing rights (though it may also play an important part)…
Saishuu Heiki Kanojo/SaiKano/She, The Ultimate Weapon 最終兵器彼女 – The closest SRW have that are not really classified as robots are armored suits (Tekkaman Blade, Bonta-kun), so if they were to add this in, they may have to rethink the definition of mechas they want to add in. Not that I’m against it, in fact I will love for them to add it in, but it wouldn’t be called Super Robot Wars, isn’t it? Banpresto might want to consider another series of game similar to fan-made game Battle Fantasia (which is the exact replica of SRW, when it comes to game mechanics) which uses characters instead of robots to fight.
Mobile Police Patlabor 機動警察パトレイバー – This is perhaps one of the biggest fan favourites for SRW. However, I do not know why is it not possible. Licensing rights is not a problem, sicne it’s by Sunrise, which is under Bandai, and the company that make SRW, Banpresto, is also under Bandai. Story-wise, I don’t think so since the story writers of SRW are famous for being able to merge different series together and produce new storylines. What else is impossible for them? Perhaps one of the seven great mysteries of SRW…
Busou Renkin 武装錬金 - I really don’t see ANY reason for this series to go in. There’s only one mecha in the whole show, and no, it’s not the main.
SDF Macross II 超時空要塞マクロスII Lovers Again - This one is really weird. SDF Macross, Macross Plus and Macross 7 have all appeared in SRW, what’s more is another one? I’m even expecting Macross Zero to make its debut soon.
Relic Armor Legaciam レリック・アーマー レガシアム – Unknown to me. This one is by Bandai too, and is a 50 min OVA. Reason again might be too short…
ARIEL - Unknown to me. It’s a 2-episode OVA. Look like a potential candidate to me though. There’s also another related 2-episode OVA “DELUXE ARIEL”. Well, it’s alway nice to see robots in the shape and design of girls, HAHA.
Doraemon Nobita to Tetsujin Hyoudan/Doraemon: Nobita and the Platoon of Iron Men ドラえもん のび太と鉄人兵団 – I have to admit, this is one I have never ever thought of. It may sound interesting, but you will have to turn Doraemon and gang into playable characters, which sounds like a bad idea.
Gunparade March ガンパレード・マーチ~新たなる行軍歌~ – This is relatively new, and this is another one which I don’t know why is it impossible to get in. Might as well say that Gunparade Orchestra is also unable to get in. Hopefully someone will tell me the reason… But then again I haven’t watch it yet.
Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna 地球少女アルジュナ- Although I haven’t watch it, I do know that it’s not really a mecha show. More of a magical girl show, maybe?
Laputa – Castle in the Sky 天空の城ラピュタ - I don’t know how can this be integrated into SRW, and you will also need to persuade Hayao Miyazaki to give the rights, which should cost a bomb…
Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash 機動戦士ガンダム 閃光のハサウェイ – Well, it’s not really a significant story, and putting it in requires the events of Char’s Counterattack to take place first… May not be a problem since it’s possible to integrate the story.
Choujyuukishin Dancougar BURN! 超獣機神ダンクーガBURN – Unknown to me. Doesn’t look like a sequel to Dancougar.
Majinryu BARION 魔神竜バリオン – Ok, this is VERY obscure, since it’s not even adapted into an anime.
GAIA GEAR ガイア.ギア – Again, another obscure title I’ve never heard before. I have no idea what’s this about…
Armor Hunter MELLOWLINK 機甲猟兵メロウリンク – seems to be a spinoff of Votoms. Otherwise, I have no idea too…
Ghost in the Shell SAC 攻殻機動隊 STAND ALONE COMPLEX – Yet another one that I will never ever thought of. Kusanagi might be an android, but that doesn’t equates to a mecha. Tachikomas are considered to be mechas though. Maybe they can make it the way Renais work with Kouryu and Anryu
Sakura Wars サクラ大戦 – This is definitely a very good series to put in SRW, no doubt about it. The only problem i can see is that since Sakura Wars got their own games, the licensing rights are definitely high. If only Sakura Wars can have their characters as guest characters in SRW similar to what Sega did with Virtual On… I have to agree that this is one tough nut to crack…
Raimuiro Senkitan らいむいろ戦奇譚 – A possible candidate, but this also has the same problem as Sakura Wars. the interesting thing is that if this ever manage to get into the SRW line-up, it will be the first h-game to do so, which might inspire other similar h-games to follow suit (Muv-Luv Alternative will be my first choice in getting in)
Yuugen Kaisha Chikyuu Bouei-tai 有限会社 地球防衛隊 – I can’t find any info on this, except that it may be a Playstation 1 game…
Makyo Gaiden Le Deus 魔境外伝レ・ディウス - Unknown to me. Possibly too short and too obscure…
Choudendou KANTAM ROBO 超電導カンタム.ロボ – Another one which I can’t find any info on… Seriously obscure…
There’s one last title, but I’m already too tired to translate that, since it look really obscure…

hey, I think I know some of them.
Gaia Gear is a Tomino production which is set in an alternate future of the First Gundam anime, featuring a Char Aznable clone. It is rendered non-canonical due to the later Gundam works that followed (Zeta Gundam)
and I think Macross II did not get included because it is non-canonical to the other Macross series. (including it is not hard though, seriously, the SRW writers…)
SRW W’s story really shocked me.
Patlabor will be great, along with Yuusha Keisatsu J-Decker.
Sakura Taisen too…
-lols at Battle Fantasia vids-
I don’t know about Macross II, but if Macross Plus is able to be int the line-up, I don’t see why Macross II can’t.
If Gaia Gear is practically a alternate setting of Mobile Suit Gundam, I will think it’s interesting to place in SRW in the way Gundam X and Turn-A Gundam are placed in SRW Alpha Gaiden. In Alpha Gaiden, they went into an alternate future. This time, they might consider going into the alternate present. Sounds cool, isn’t it?
I wish that the Yuusha series are featured in SRW. The only one that got in is GaoGaiGar. Also, more mecha animes that feature school kids from the late 80’s/early 90’s. The only one that got in is Raijin-oh.
Well, at least the whole of the J9 series got in, and together in the same game.
I will agree that SRW W is rather shocking, which makes me decides to go watch Tekkaman Blade. I will love to hear your opinions on SRW W, since i’m unfamiliar with some of the series in there, heck I din even watch Voltron before.
I don’t know much about SRW W as I haven’t really completed it, but it kinds of “breaks the barrier”. I mean… the existence Bonta-kun as a playable unit in the game explains everything (I know J has it).
Jindai High School Festival Special Attraction!
Bonta-kun VS Mecha Beasts! Featuring Golion + 1!
(Golion crew + Shishiou Gai in GaoGaiGar)
…and many more. The way they poked fun at Heero and Sousuke’s similarities (they aren’t exactly a clone of each other but… yea) for example. I really loved the original characters, the Valstork (Ardygun) Family. Kazuma, Duo and Quatre’s friendship.
I agree that Yuusha series should be included in SRW. The reason they never did is probably due to the existence of the Brave Saga games. And I have the same love for 80s and 90s anime school kids as you do…
Actually there isn’t a single SRW game that I have completed. I reached stage 30+ in Alpha, 19+ in SRW W, 22+ in OG1. I anticipate Gaiden… but will have to play through Alpha so that the storyline isn’t messed up in my head. Argh…
I’m gonna try to FIND Tekkaman Blade in Singapore.
Lion Voltron (Golion) is roughly the first combining robot to exist in America and heavily referenced in their local media. From what I’ve read, the story is roughly similar to that of Voltes V for the theme on dictatorship and ill-treating of slaves. Also, royal issues regarding the princess (in a certain episode, Raibul wanted the Princess to pilot the Black Lion, which is Kogane’s (the leader’s) unit. The theme is catchy… (One, Plus one! Plus One! Plus ONE! PLUS ONE! GO-(Five)!)
Nadesico has got to be my second favourite anime in the game. (I liked FMP most) Have you unlocked the “Let’s Go Gekiganger 3″ theme? Haha, I’m sure you did. It’s tempting to set that as Akito’s main theme… however it clashed with his personality (he wasn’t as crazy a fan of the anime as Jiro Yamada)
Mazinkaiser OVA… hmm… it feels very JAM Project don’t you think? =) Beginning from the theme song. It’s kind of modern. And Boss Borot is cranky as ever. Their villains get to interact with Golion’s enemies.
I like it when they associate the long dead Treize Krushenada into the story. I mean, he was a great character… but he didn’t exist in Endless Waltz. I didn’t understand the part about the A9 terrorists getting trained by him though. It’s just too much of a crossover story.
I miss Layzner. There were certain similarities between Layzner and Full Metal Panic!. I’ll write about them in my blog sometime later…
Alternate present… reminds me of “Back to the Future”. -chuckles- That’ll be great. Gaia Gear… I’m thinking Banpresto merely forgot about it.
which reminds me… What about Shinkon Gattai Godannar?
Battlefantasia G had it.
And the new Gaiking, new Raideen and… VOTOMS! -gasp-
haha, Derf, you sure post a lot of comments
, so much so that I’m having trouble replying back, hehe. Ok, here goes:
I got the Tekkaman Blade anime (fansub) burned on my dvds… I don’t mind burning a copy for you…
I love the part where they put Heero and Sousuke together, I can’t stop laughing at the similarities between them.
I suppose you have read the article i written on SRW W, where I talked about my rough views on the game. (Or maybe you didn’t, as it contain possible spoilers, but that’s all right)
Brave Saga… I forgotten about that… there’s also the Sunrise Eiyuutan series, which is pretty much forgotten with the release of the third installment.
For me, my favourite character is Tekkaman Blade, he’s the most human character out there.
Yes, GoLion is rather similar to Voltes V, but you have to admit Prince Hainel and Prince Richter are much better villain than Prince Sincline. They are much more handsome, looks more cool, and most importantly the audience are able to feel them better. Plus, i tend to compare Princess Farla with Erika from Daimos. These differences have to be addressed since GoLion is pretty much a combination of these mecha animes, with nothing much original about it. Daltanius is the first one with a Lion mecha, and the sword attack is seriously outdated since both Voltes V and Daltanius had done it. Worse still, Jyuu-oh Ken Inazuma Otoshi is not as spectacular as Tenkuuken V no Tegiri or Kaenken Juumonji Giri.
SRW has a positive tendency to portray old mecha animes in a MUCH better light, but GoLion stands together with Trider G7 as one of the worst super robot shows to ever feature in SRW. Even SRW cannot save them from mere mediocrity…
The reason why Voltron did so well in the west is because they did not have access to the likes of Voltes V and Daimos.
Yes, i have seen the Gekiganger theme, and boy, was it one of the best BGMs, haha. Too bad you won’t see normal Akito long enough, since he will be in his POD form for the 2nd half of the game. This theme is more suitable for Gai and Tsukumo.
For Mazinkaiser ~Shitou! Ankoku Daishogun~, I like the fact that they are using “Majin Kenzan!!” as the BGM for the upgraded Mazinkaiser. Heck, it was what I’m looking forward to ever since I heard this song. But sadly SRW does not really show the desperateness that the Mazinger team had against the Daishogun that is in the show. The opening and ending themes “The Gate of the Hell” and “Senshi yo Nemure…” are the best evidence for that. Maybe that’s also the reason why they did not put these two songs in (damn, these two songs are one of the best JAM have to offer)… I suppose they want Mazinkaiser to look more hot-blooded and to be in a more positive light, instead of a vengence-seeking Kouji (he’s actually similar to Ryouma in Shin Getter Robo Armageddon). Plus, I don’t really feel the evilness that’s supposed to come from Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter Robo as what I’ve seen in the Alpha saga. In Alpha, they were actually afraid to use these two machines, as they were seriously overpowered, which is the reason why you will see Kouji starting with Mazinger Z and Ryouma team starting with Getter Robo G even when they do have access to the two forbidden machines…
Boss Borot is cranky, but Bonta-kun is hilarious. I never thought that some other mecha (?) can take away the King of Laughs trophy from Boss Borot…
You have mentioned a very good point: Treize Krushenada. I totally forgotten about him when i was writing the review on SRW W. I have to admit, the plot is well thought out. Although they actually can choose to place the whole of the Gundam Wing TV series in the 1st half of the story, while the Endless Waltz part be placed in the 2nd half. But I guess there’s too many series to handle. Tekkaman Blade (with Detonator Orgun) and Gundam Seed (with Astray and X Astray) already took up a lot of the plot…
Layzner… i have not seen the similarities between Layzner and FMP… guess I need to go play my SRW Judgement to better understand the story…
My results of completion: Alpha 1 around 5 times, Advance around 5 times; the rest of the Alpha Saga, MX, W, the rest of the GBA series except Judgement completed once. SRW F til stage 20 i think… the game is too difficult.
I agree with you that you should play the Alpha series in order. The Alpha saga is truly a GREAT epic, with Alpha 3 being the most extensive SRW ever in SRW history. Even though Alpha Gaiden sounds like a side story, it’s not really one either. Treat it more like a closing gap between Alpha 1 and Alpha 2. And trust me, Alpha Gaiden is not easy…
The series you have mentioned… Well, they are not mentioned in the video since (in the eyes of the video maker) they have definite chances of appearing in SRW. It’s just a matter of when they will. There are tons you can mention… Next time I will write up an article depicting which series i will like them to appear in SRW… seriously it’s going to be a long list, lol!
Lol. I love Voltes V. Which is why I enjoy GoLion’s existence in SRW W… Haha. Some Americans are so obsessed over it. Imagine when they get to play an English version of Alpha series.
I haven’t read your article on SRW W (yes, because I’m afraid of spoilers) and decide to save it for after I complete my game (which is probably the first SRW I’m going to complete).
I absolutely love “Majin Kenzan!” (just reached that stage last week). And they actually made Kouji like the revengeful Ryouma from Shin Getter Robo: Sekai Saigo no Hi?! Yes, probably there were more desperate characters in SRW W and they didn’t want Kouji to join them =D
Yes, Alpha versions of those machines were made evil, but here… they are permanently the new machines (Mazinger Z was destroyed, and Shin Getter Robo had to be activated to control Mazinkaiser). I think that’s because of using the OVA as story material instead of Banpresto’s original Mazinkaiser plot.
Does Tsukumo or Gai join you? Or do I have to convince them? That’s the only thing I desperately wanted to find out for SRW W. It’s hard to make some characters playable in the first try… especially for SRW Impact.
Lol… reading your last paragraph I realized that SRW is getting crazily large. XD
Sorry when I post too much comments! -bow- I just get carried away talking about SRW.
Voltes V rocks because Voltes V is the “Michael Jourdan of Super robots. Voltron or Golion is a mere copycat!
