SRW OGS Update: System

Translated from SRW Official Site

Twin Battle System

This is a new battle system used in SRW OGS. Under certain conditions, two units on the map are able to combine into one “TWIN UNIT“. This TWIN UNIT is entitled to special abilities such as “Doushi Kogeki” (Simultaneous Attack), “Twin Seishin Command” and “Kitai Tokusei Kouka” (Mecha Attribute Effect).

To combine into a TWIN UNIT, the two units must have their Kiryoku/Morale raised to a certain level. Afterwhich, a command “Goryuu” (Merge) will appear under the menu where you can choose the commands for your unit.

At this time, an area circle where the other unit must be at to merge appears. Move the cursor over the other unit and you will see a window showing the mecha attributes and how they will affect the TWIN UNIT after they have merged. Mecha attributes can be split into 7 categories: “Kakutou” (Close combat), “Shageki” (Ranged combat), “Nendou” (Telekinesis),” Bougyou” (Defense), “Meichuu” (Hit rate), “Kaihi” (Dodge rate) and “Hanyou” (General). One thing to note is that some mechas have different attributes based on which form they are in.

In addition to the “Kougeki” (Attack) command (Author’s Note: This is inferred), a TWIN UNIT has another command called “Doushi Kougeki” (Simultaneous Attack). This can be divided into two sub-commands: “Shuuchuu Kogeki” (Focus Attack) and “Kobetsu Kogeki” (Individual Attack). “Shuuchuu Kogeki” allows both units to attack a single enemy mecha, regardless of whether it’s a main or a sub. “Kobetsu Kogeki” works in a way such that the main unit will attack the main enemy unit, while the sub unit will attack the sub enemy unit.

There are 5 examples shown in screen slides. The first three from the top are under “Doushi Kogeki” (I think they mean “Shuuchuu Kogeki”), the fourth is under “Kobetsu Kogeki” and the fifth one is under “Engo Kogeki” (Support Attack) using two TWIN UNITs.

1) R-1 and Cybuster (G. Revolver and Dis Cutter)

2) R-2 Powered and Aussenseiter (Magna Beam Rifle and Lanze Kanone)

3) Wildraubtier and Wildwurger (both using M90 Assault Machine Gun)

4) Grungust and Grungast Nishiki (Type II) (both using Boost Knuckle)

5) Excellence Striker and Alteisen Riese (Chest Smasher and 3 Barrel Machine Gun) – supported by Rein Weiss Ritter and Schutzwald (Howling Launcher B and Twin Beam Cannon)

The 5th screen slide is rather interesting, as it shows that you can get a maximum of 4 mechas to attack at once, WITHOUT any penalties in attack damage. If you will remember, the team system of letting your teammates help you cause them to deal only 40% of their original damage, and you are only allowed one support attack. The simultaneous attack system in SRW Impact does not allow you to use it together with support attacks.

Pay careful attention to the 1st and 4th slide. You will see Cybuster using its blade, a cut-in of Masaki (but where’s Kuro and Shiro? :(), and the way the Grungasts launches their flying punches.

With this system in place, you will note that they are NOT using the team system used in Alpha 2 and 3. Oh well, the twin battle system sounds interesting enough.

Weapon Select System

Ok, this is not exactly a new system, since it has been used since OG1, so just a short explanation on it.

This system allows you to equip your units with extra weapons in addtional to their own arsenal. For example, R-2 Powered does not have any melee weapons, so you might want to add a Beam Sword to his weapon arsenal, or you will like to give more range and power to Geshpenst Mk-II (maximum range of 5 i believe), so you give it a Boosted Rifle.

There’s a limit to how many weapons you can place on a mecha, and this is controlled by the W (for Weapon) Gauge. Each mecha has different amount of W Gauge, and each weapon has different amount of required W Gauge. Needless to say, you can’t go over the W Gauge limit for each mecha, and the stronger the weapons, the higher its required W Gauge is.

These weapons can be obtained through 3 ways. Some are given to you once you clear scenarios, some come along with new allies ( meaning the are already equipped with the weapons. Feel free to play around and interchange), and some need to be unlocked by certain conditions.

Not all mechas are able to equip extra weapons, most notably those super robots and lords of elemental (READ: Grungast series, Giganscudo, SRX, Cybuster and Vashione R). Gespensts are the most flexible. On the other hand, battleships and planes have such a pathetic W Gauge that you can only add the Repair and Supply modules, and ONE status-changing weapon.
Perhaps the most interesting thing this system is going to present here is how are they going to deal with the graphics of interchangeable weapons. Will it look similar or different between different mechas equipping the same weapon?

… … … … … … … … … … *sweat*

Ok, that wasn’t EXACTLY SHORT… :p

  1. Actually, Valcione (no “R” yet) could equip weapons in OG1 & OG2 as well

  2. yes, i forgot about that. :p

And there’s actually another error: Battleships are not able to equip status-changing weapons…

Only realise these when i’m playing OG (english version)…
